The Ocean Prime restaurant in Beverly Hills is everything you would expect…and more. Serving traditional steaks and seafood it’s pricey but worth it for the experience.

The first thing we noticed was the relaxed ambiance and elegance of the surroundings. Lots of wood and glass and muted music.  Sitting on the lovely outside patio is the prime location, but at 350 seats over 11,000 square feet, there are plenty of options.

Service is warm and professional so you can relax and make the most of the experience.

We started with the ‘smoking’ jumbo shrimp cocktail appetizer ($26) which is quite a show. And delicious, according to our eating partner.

The extensive wine list notes that they use the ‘Coravin’ preservation opener method which means that they don’t have to uncork the bottle – and thus expose it to oxidation — so every pour is fresh.

Going the traditional route, I ordered the 8oz filet mignon ($58) which comes with a choice of sauces, for instance, Bearnaise, Au Poivre, Black Truffle Butter, Maytag Blue Cheese Crust, or Garlic Shrimp Scampi. (Note: the sauces are extra, ranging from $8 to $17.)

A nice touch is the pearl-handled steak knives which our waiter places reverentially placed beside our plates.

Our sea-food-loving companion chose the twin lobster tails with drawn butter ($68.) Yes, it was as good as it looks.

Another nice touch: the drawn butter was placed over a small votive to keep it warm. It’s all in the details.

Don’t miss the extensive sides, with everything from garlic mashed potatoes, lobster Mac And Cheese (a meal in itself), bacon creamed spinach, black truffle mac & cheese, and more. (Prices range from $15-$19.)

The roasted Brussel sprouts were perfect (the secret ingredient is red wine vinegar, says our waiter.)

Normally after such a filling meal, you don’t want dessert but if you’re reviewing you have to go for it so I chose the decadent Chocolate Cake with a scoop of ice cream (chocolate heaven) and my partner ordered the spectacular 10-layer carrot cake ($15.) All the desserts are big enough to share with two people at least.

All in all, it was a memorable evening. We can’t wait for a reason to go there again.
