Thankfully, the Olympic pools are blue again, after turning a murky green last week. It turns out that a worker had poured hydrogen peroxide, (bleach) into both the diving and water polo pools on August 5, the day of the opening ceremony. When the pools started turning emerald, the mistake was discovered. Apparently, the chemical, which is routinely used to clean pools, neutralized the chlorine in the water, allowing algae to bloom and turning the water green. Officials drained and replaced the pool water and viola! Back to blue…
