The FDA is expected to approve the new COVID vaccine by Friday meaning the shot could be available as early as next week.

In clinical studies, the new vaccine worked well against the Pirola subvariant, the latest mutation of the virus.

With COVID rates rising around the country, this shot is just in the nick of time. If enough people get the vaccine the country may be able to avoid a deadly fall and winter.

At the moment, only Moderna has the new shot but Pfizer and Novavax will release a vaccine aimed at the new subvariant soon.
