After much pressure, Israel — who indicated they will not agree to a cease-fire — will begin 4-hour pauses in military operations in Gaza each day. This is to allow Gaza civilians to flee and for humanitarian aid to get into the area.

Key to this is the fact that Israel will announce the timing of the pauses three hours beforehand, not much time, but it was the best the negotiators could get.

John Kirby, the National Security Council spokesman explained:

“We have been urging the Israelis to minimize civilian casualties and to do everything that they can to reduce those numbers,” Kirby said, saying they would provide “breathing space for a few hours” for civilians to move out of harm’s way.

Though Israel has been warning civilians to move to southern Gaza many innocent Gaza residents have found it near impossible, and the ones who attempted it have been shelled.
