The New York Times reports that the Grand Jury voted to indict Donald Trump in New York.
This gives Trump the dubious honor of being the first former president to face criminal charges. This case concerns Ttrump’s illegal hush-money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels.
What happens next?
The felony indictment, filed under seal by the Manhattan district attorney’s office, will be officially announced and federal prosecutors will ‘ask’ Trump to surrender. In person.
As with any criminal, he will be fingerprinted, they’ll take his mug shot and there’s a chance that he may be handcuffed but security will prevent photographers from getting that shot.
Then the former president will be read the standard Miranda warning: He will be told that he has the right to remain silent and the right to an attorney.
