My days of laying in the sun baking my skin to a golden brown are done. Like anyone with common sense I slather on thick SPF and always wear a hat. But, that doesn’t mean I have to look like I cower from the sun. Thanks to the beauty gods, or more accurately science, there’s an ever growing list of self-tanning products on the market. There are lotions, gels, sprays, BB creams — and now the first ever self-tanning bronzing powder.

I love my mineral based make-ups so I was excited to give Trystal Self Tanning Bronzing Minerals from Vita Liberata a test run. The world’s first self-tanning bronzer offers pure mineral coverage, an instant bronze and best of all a natural looking lasting tan. The tan deepens over a 4-8 hour period and it can be gradually built with regular use. It gets major points for being cruelty-free and vegan. And it’s also free of gluten and nasty stuff like sulphates and parabens.

Now the only question is — does it work? As a mineral powder and bronzer this gets full marks. It blends easily, doesn’t clog pores and looks great all on it’s own. The first time I wore it someone literally asked me where I’d been on vacation. I’m a huge fan of having a nice, sun kissed glow and that’s precisely what Trystal Self Tanning Bronzing Minerals delivers. This is by far one of the best bronzers I have ever tried. Plus the kabuki brush that comes with the product is fantastic and it makes applying the bronzing minerals super easy. The key to getting a nice natural bronze is to apply this with a very light hand, because it’s designed to actually tan your skin it does goes on pretty dark, so just remember less is more. $45 at Sephora.
