Blithe’s Pressed Serum Velvet Yam ($37) comes in a sleek 1.68 fluid ounce (50 ml) jar and works for enriched facial hydrating. Main ingredient? Yams! That’s right–one of your favorite holiday side dishes. The company product line uses natural ingredients that are “highly nutritious” and found in the world’s longevity regions.

During the winter months, my skin is even drier than usual, so I was intrigued by the idea of a yam additive. Why not? The Velvet Yam cream contains a wild yam root extract of 68.79% that is rich in various amino acids, sugars and saponins.

The yam root also contains mucin—an ingredient that claims to have essential proteins that help synthesize collagen and provides a thin but potent layer of moisture. The cream also contains shea butter and macadamia oil. Packed with lots of things that dry skin loves!

So—how did it work? I found the cream to be very rich but also light on the skin. It absorbed completely and felt very moisturizing. The recommended amount is pea-size to cover your face after cleansing in the morning and at night. I needed more than the pea-size amount to feel like I had enough cream on my face.

After using the Blithe serum for a week, it seems to help with some of the dryness and the undereye area seems a bit brighter and smoother. Products are environmentally friendly and cruelty-free.

I yam a fan (couldn’t resist).
