Happy Acne Awareness Month. ( Try to celebrate responsibly.)

Yesterday, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, Inc. one of the nation’s largest pharmaceutical companies, celebrated the launch of their AH-Ha!™ It’s Acne Hormones campaign with an intimate luncheon at Beverly Hills’ Spago, hosted by Dr. Sandra Lee with special guest and skin expert, Cassandra Bankson. The AH-Ha!™

The campaign spotlights hormones as a major underlying cause of acne, regardless of age, gender, or ethnicity. Acne is the most prevalent skin condition in the U.S., affecting up to 50 million Americans and 80% of people at some point during their lives.

Guests were treated to activations, a sit-down lunch at Spago’s of Beverly Hills, and a fascinating Q&A.

Spago luncheon.

Our favorite part was when Dr Sandra Lee Aka DR Pimple Popper dispelled some common acne myths:

  1. Tell me the acne myths you detest.

We say food causes acne. I don’t think that’s the case. I like to say pizza is only going to cause acne if you rub it all over your face. Oil causes acne. Hormones cause acne, right? Hormone is the hugest component of acne out there. So I think it’s really important for people to know that. You know, I have parents come in all the time that say ‘Tell my kid, that you know, she’s got to stop eating that fried chicken and that junk food at night, it’s just causing a breakout.’ Well I don’t think it’s causing a breakout, it’s actually just, it’s mainly hormones. I mean, it’s mainly because you are a teenager, and that’s when your hormones are really raised.
