As the fires raged through the canyons around Malibu, owners desperately tried to round up their pets but some were forced to leave without them. Firefighters swooped up cats, dogs and sometimes horses and now rescue groups are combing through the burnt areas. Happy tales of tearful residents reunited with their animals bring a bright spot to an otherwise grim situation.

And the animals in shelters are being lovingly cared for. There are many ways you can help but according to the Center for International Disaster Information, sending money is almost always the most efficient way to help in a disaster.

We’ve vetted Global Animal Foundation and there are small organizations that need your help/ \cash as well.

‘So far, Global Animal Foundation–a 501(c)(3) that funds emergency animal rescue worldwide–has raised over $2,500 to help the hundreds of pets, horses, and wildlife displaced by the fires as committed animal rescue organizations work to keep animals safe and healthy.’
