Yesterday, we found out that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas took luxury trips for over TWENTY YEARS paid for by a rich GOP supporter, Harlan Crow, but never disclosed them. Island hopping on a super yacht, that sort of thing.

ProPublica broke the story.

“The highest court in the land shouldn’t have the lowest ethical standards,” said Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee. “This behavior is simply inconsistent with the ethical standards the American people expect of any public servant, let alone a Justice on the Supreme Court.”

In the wake of this report, Democrats Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib have called for  Thomas to be impeached, while House Judiciary Committee member Rep. Hank Johnson recommended Thomas resign or be censured by his fellow justices.

“It’s incomprehensible to me that someone would do this,” says one former judge.

This has also spurred renewed calls for reforms to the nation’s highest court.

As you’ll remember, this is not the first time Thomas has been in hot water. His wife conservative activist Ginni Thomas worked with Trump to try and overthrow the 2020 election. That should have been the Supreme Court’s Justice sign to step down.

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, referred to the ProPublica report as a “call to action” and promised that the panel “will act.”

Realistically though, while the Republicans control the House, there is no chance of any congressional action.
