With COVID hospitalizations on the rise and flu season kicking in this Fall, the CDC is recommending that all Americans over the age of 6 months get the new vaccine with protection from the latest virus strain.

The shots from Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna are available this week the CDC said in a news release. (When we checked our local CVS, all appointments had been taken so book in advance!)

Vaccine manufacturers have said testing shows that their vaccines are effective against EG.5, the currently dominant strain in the United States.

The older vaccine shots are retired and no longer available.
