The moment I stepped into Della Terra on Beverly Boulevard I felt a warm welcome from the friendly staff, and before you chalk it up to my status as a member of the press—I assure you they had no idea I was there to write a review.
Once I was seated, my server quickly brought out a bottle of chilled water in a lovely glass bottle—points for not pushing to upsell me on the H20 —and the most delicious complimentary flatbread made from the wood-fired hand-tossed pizza dough, along with a dip of olive oil, fresh garlic, parmesan cheese, parsley and chili flakes. Usually, I can hold back on the bread and dip before a decadent meal, but this was so tasty I scarfed it all down—and didn’t regret one bite.
With a seemingly endless wine list and an impressive bar with over 300 types of liquor I opted to ask my bartender for her advice and was very happy with her recommendation of a Syrah from Sicily. The full-bodied wine by Luna Nero D’Avola goes for a very reasonable price of $15 per glass and is also for sale by the bottle at Haute Mess, the restaurant’s sister market next door.
For my starter, I went with the classic Caprese salad ($24), and it did not disappoint. It was a generous size, with thick slices of juicy heirloom tomatoes and creamy burrata cheese, drizzled with a sweet balsamic glaze and topped with crispy basil.
By the time I reached my main course, I was already feeling full, but of course, I could not resist trying one of the signature pasta dishes, made fresh daily with organic Italian flour.
The Ravioli Tartufi ($38), aka Truffle Raviolo, is stuffed with porcini mushroom and black truffles and drenched in a cheesy butter sauce. The dish is rich but delicate, with an earthy flavor that unfolds in layers. The initial truffle explosion is followed by the umami flavor of porcini mushrooms, finishing with the creamy notes of cheese and garlic. Chef’s kiss!
If you’re watching your wallet, Della Terra offers some very enticing specials—go on Mondays to try select pasta dishes for just $16. Or hit up their weekend brunch for bottomless champagne cocktails! On weekdays, happy hour is from 3 pm-6 pm and includes half-price pizzas and $4 off all cocktails and glasses of wine.
