Each year we ask a hair professional to weigh in with their opinions on the Oscar hair. Loved it ? Hated it? What were thinking? Believe me, they don’t hold anything back!

The Harlot Team by Marylle Koken (from The Harlot Salon on Abbott Kinney) break it down for us:

BEST HAIR

Daisy Ridley – This hair look was one that caught our attention immediately. It was one of the most unique shapes on the red carpet and was just enough class without losing her sex appeal. She looked incredible!

Thank God! The pixie is gone and the mid length blonde is in! She looks so beautiful with this hair length and color. We hope this look is here to stay.

Charlize Theron

Timeless is the only word that comes to mind when we see this iconic beauty walking down the red carpet. The upswept feeling of her hair compliments her face perfectly and she is hands down one of the most consistent fashion femmes in the game.

WORST HAIR

Kate Winslet

Ok, we get the “effortless” look, however it still requires some actual effort. The lazy hair could have brought the ill-fitting dress to life a bit but the opportunity was lost by going with this do-it-yourself style.

Alicia Vikander

This one surprised us a bit. Alicia is usually stunning and tasteful with her red carpet looks. This year, though, all we could think of is Ariana Grande. A beautiful girl with an unfortunately juvenile style this year.

Sophie Turner

This is where an eye for hair design is key. The color is gorgeous but the part is not in the right place for her fave and the side that is behind the ear either needs to be slicked back or not back at all. We get the idea but the execution was did this girl an injustice.

HAIR THAT BEST COMPLIMENTED THE DRESS

Dorith Mous

This was by far our favorite overall look of the night. This is how you make a red carpet statement. Every element of this look from the hair, to the makeup, to the dress was flawless. The way her tousled pixie flowed to one side completely complimented the fairy tale aura of the rest of the look. Perfection!

Lady Gaga

Yes! This was the perfect homage to the classic era of Old Hollywood. Her hair was STYLED! One of the only looks of the night that reminded us that the glamour days don’t have to be over. That taking inspiration from the past can still be current and beautiful today. Not everything has to be effortless.
