In case you slept through the weekend, in which case, good on you!, France conquered Croatia and once again Les Bleus is bringing home the World Cup. (They won twenty years ago.)

And in a time of national discord over immigration, it is worth noting that 15 members of  France’s winning 23-person squad are of African descent, prompting goalscorer Antoine Griezmann to say: “That’s the France we love. Different origins but we are all united.”
Well played, indeed.
