The rain started late Thursday night in Hong Kong. By Friday morning many streets had become roaring rivers, with metro stations submerged and drivers trapped in their cars.

Authorities warned all non-essential workers to stay home and suspended schools.

As of Friday afternoon, 119 people have been reported injured from the downpour, four of whom are in serious condition, according to Hong Kong’s Hospital Authority. The government said Friday that such “extreme” conditions were expected to continue until at least midnight.

As climate change reshapes global weather, this is the latest example of man-made disasters.
