Want to wear dockers and a Hawaiin shirt on the Senate floor?

In a surprising move, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has told the sergeant-at-arms to ‘no longer enforce’ the Senate’s informal dress code for senators on the chamber floor. For men, this means that they no longer must wear suits.

How much of this is due to popular Pennsylvania Senator Senate John Fetterman who is usually in shorts and a hoodie? Or is this just a natural response to the trend among most workplaces?

In a recent poll, only 3% of men said they wear business dress (such as suits) to the office. That is down from 14% about a decade ago.

And for women, only 3% of them report they wore a suit or business clothing to work in 2023.

Times are a-changing.
