Under former Bralizan President Bolsonaro, the Amazon Rainforest was deforested and devastated.

Now, with the election of leftist former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva—known as Lula—in Sunday’s election, the rainforest will likely be saved. Lula has already signaled he intends to end Amazon’s deforestation – and decimation of indigenous tribes — crackdown on illegal mining and restore the Amazon Fund, which protects the rainforest. Bolosnaro  ingored it during his presidency and allowed the raping of the critical rainforest.

“The damage of Bolsonaro’s Presidency is expansive—but it is not necessarily set in stone. Quick, wide-ranging action to slow rates of deforestation and return restore lands could help reverse this damage,” said Ed Atkins, environmental and energy policy specialist.
