First rule of politics: Don’t desert your State in an emergency.

Ted Cruz apparently isn’t aware of this basic rule as he decided to flee Texas — which is mired in a deep freeze —  for an upscale vaca in Cancun.

After fellow passengers posted photos to Twitter of the Senator and his family deserting Texas, outraged Texans are venting their anger at the clueless Cruz.

Texas state Rep. Gene Wu, a Democrat representing southwest Houston, tweeted a photo of Cruz aboard a flight, criticizing Cruz for flying south “while the state was freezing to death and having to boil water.”
“I can’t believe I have to say this, but: if you’re an American pol whose state is enduring a crisis of Katrina-like proportions and instead of going to help your constituents in even a basic, performative sort of way you FLY TO ANOTHER COUNTRY’S BEACH TOWN, you’re doing it wrong,” tweeted Sonny Burch a conservative commentator Texan,

Now the Senator’s office is saying that he is flying back today, after less than 24 hours in Mexico.

To add insult to injury, as early as Tuesday, Cruz had gone on the radio to caution fellow Texans.

He went on: ‘If you can stay home, don’t go out on the roads, don’t risk the ice. …

‘Don’t risk it. Keep your family safe, and just stay home and hug your kids.’
