Friday, Donald Trump’s company was fined $1.6 million for tax fraud in which top executives dodged taxes on lavish job perks. (See Trump’s CFO Allen Weisselberg, who evaded taxes on $1.7 million and is now serving 5 months in jail.)
Trump maintains that he had no idea of the tax scheme.
Though the Trump organization was convicted of 17 tax crimes, including conspiracy and falsifying business records, the fine is the only penalty a judge can impose.
And even though this is a tiny sum for the Trump Organization, it’s still symbolic and one more strike against Donald Trump’s image as a savvy businessman.
