First, the Search and rescue teams were forced to stand down after an engineer feared that what was left of the Champlain Towers South could come down on the rescuers.

Now, Hurricane Elsa is headed to shore causing heavy rainfall and winds which would again suspend the search for any survivors.

So far, 18 people are confirmed dead and 145 are still unaccounted for.

 

 

Meanwhile, much-needed repairs to the condo building had just begun after a 2018 report found that the building had ‘major structural damage’ and assessed the repair costs at $15 million.
