Whoopi Goldberg spoke out about the emergency Academy meeting being called for Wednesday after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock during the Oscars.

“There are consequences,’ she said during a taping of The View Tuesday. ‘There are big consequences because nobody is OK with what happened.’

“Nobody, nobody, nobody,” she added.

As a voting member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Board of Governors, she added that while she believes Will Smith will be able to keep his Oscar that there would be some punishment meted out.

On Monday the Academy released a statement saying:

‘The Academy condemns the actions of Mr. Smith at last night’s show. We have officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our Bylaws, Standards of Conduct and California law.’

Though Will Smith may not have to hand back his Oscar, he could be temporarily suspended from the Academy. In extreme situations — such as with Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby — they can be permanently expelled from the Academy though that is likely to happen here.
