The Oxford/AstraZeneca team, makers of one of the world’s first COVID vaccines, just announced they are working on a new ‘adapted’ version to work on all the different Coronavirus variants discovered so far.
Reportedly, it’s a ‘short process’ to adapt a vaccine vs making the original shot. This could work for people who get infected with one of the variants…or as a first vaccine shot for those who haven’t gotten the first jab.
A study released Tuesday showed that the new vaccine ‘cut transmission by up to two-thirds and a single dose can prevent 76 % of severe illnesses for three months, with that rising to 82 % after the second dose. ‘
AstraZeneca’s executive vice-president, Sir Mene Pangalos, said today: ‘We’re very much aiming to have something ready by the autumn this year.’
All medical experts recommend getting the first shot you can –of any vaccine — rather than wait for this new vaccine.
