Over the weekend, Trump sent a message to Norway’s PM saying that one reason behind his desire to ‘take over’ Greenland is that he didn’t win the Nobel Peace Prize. ( First reported by PBS.)

In the TEXT message, Trump also said that he no longer felt “an obligation to think purely of Peace” and “can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America.”

As he has said repeatedly, the Norwegian leader spoke out : ‘Regarding the Nobel Peace Prize, I have repeatedly clearly explained to Trump what is well known, namely that it is an independent Nobel Committee, and not the Norwegian government, that awards the prize’.

Now, Trump has threatened the EU with tariffs if they don’t go along with his plan to ‘take Greenland by force if we have to.’

Troops in Greenland practice drills after Trump threat.

Asked about what she thought of the letter, Guhild Hoogensen Gjorv, professor of security at the Arctic University of Norway, called it ‘blackmail’.

She said: ‘He is convinced that he can gag European countries. He is willing to carry out blackmail against them. That is why it is more important than ever that Norway and Europe stand together.’

In England, the PM Sir Keir Starmer made his feelings known.

Any decision about the future status of Greenland ‘belongs to the people of Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark alone’, he said.

‘That right is fundamental, and we will support it.’

There is scuttlebutt that King Charles should not make the upcoming state visit to the US scheduled for April.

‘The civilised world can deal with Trump no longer. He is a gangster pirate,’ senior Tory (‘conservative’ in the UK) Simon Hoare said.
