BYOMA — a barrier-boosting skincare line at a democratizing price point — has taken TikTok by storm. And by that, I mean more than a billion views on the social media site since the indie brand launched last year. With a low-end price point and a high-end ingredient list, BYOMA is out to disrupt the skin-care space.
The fragrance-free products feel very soothing on my skin— and there’s a reason for that. The line’s entire focus is on repairing the outer layer of the skin, also known as the skin barrier. The skin barrier can get damaged by all kinds of things, including exfoliating, harsh products, an overly dry or overly humid environment, and even psychological distress. Repairing it makes a lot of sense — and that’s where BYOMA steps in. Every product in the BYOMA line contains a tri-ceramide complex formulated with the three key lipids of the skin barrier —ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids—to rebuild the skin barrier and restore natural moisture levels.
Their dermatologist-approved formulas are safe for all skin types, certified cruelty-free by Peta, and all under USD 16. Not only that, their packaging is fully recyclable, and they sell refills. Their brightly colored bottles look great on my bathroom countertop and, because of their square shape, they’re easier to ship, which cuts down on their carbon footprint.
The line has drawn rave reviews from TikTok content creators. But one, posted this week by @tayleralexisbeauty, is genuinely awe-inspiring. The micro-influencer, who purchased the products herself after seeing reviews from users touting its benefits for eczema sufferers, bared her skin amidst a painful-looking flare-up of the chronic skin condition. But, after 10 days of using the BYOMA Jelly Cream Cleanser, Moisturizing Gel Cream and Hydrating Serum, she revealed smooth, glowing skin and declared she’s now “obsessed” with BYOMA.
Of course, as with all skincare, the only way to see if it’s right for you is to try it out and thankfully the products in this line are incredibly affordable. BYOMA is available at Target, ULTA, Shoppers Drug Mart, Selfridges and Boots.
