Did you know that the Sweetheart candies, which own Valentine’s Day, originally came in different shapes?

Some were in the shape of wedding bells, coins, horseshoes, baseballs, animals, and (of course) hearts. And they used to be considerably bigger, too, but by the late 1940s, the hearts were smaller and sporting shorter phrases like “Be Mine.”

Since an ownership change, the company keeps current with modern slang, adding ‘hip ‘ phrases like ‘Bae’,  ‘GOAT’  ‘Queen’, and ‘Yaaas.’

For 2026, you’ll spot emojis like heart eyes as well as the always popular ‘sunglass face’ emoji.

They’re still in the standard chalky flavors like cherry, grape, blueberry, banana, lemon-lime, orange, and wintergreen; and you’ll still be able to buy a box for under $2 at most supermarkets. A bargain!
