A vast sinkhole dramatically appeared in the middle of an Illinois soccer field but fortunately, no one was using the field when it happened.

The Alton parks and recreation director, Michael Haynes, told NBC of St Louis that the collapse “looks like something out of a movie, right? It looks like a bomb went off.”

Geologists have surmised that it was probably due to the limestone mine, which is just under the field.

“No one was on the field at the time and no one was hurt, and that’s the most important thing,” said Alton’s mayor, David Goins, in a post on Facebook.
