The FDA announced today that they have approved the first over-the-counter birth control pill, meaning American women can buy contraceptive medication without a prescription.

Keep in mind that more than 100 countries already offer birth control pills over the counter, and many European countries offer free or subsidized contraception. Spain even offers them for free.

Since the approved Perrigo’s once-a-day Opill will not start shipping the pill until early next year, there’s is no word on pricing.
