In an unusual turn, former President Donald Trump granted a CNN interview conducted entirely by text messages with anchor Jake Tapper, prompting a wave of skepticism and speculation. The interview, aired Sunday, featured graphics displaying Trump’s responses to questions about the Gaza–Israel conflict, including a threat of “complete obliteration” toward Hamas if hostages were not released.

Social media users and commentators reacted sharply to the format, with many questioning whether Trump was physically able—or willing—to speak in real time. Some suggested the text exchange raised serious doubts about his health or cognitive state, arguing that a phone or in-person interview would have been more appropriate.

CNN did not immediately clarify how it verified that the messages were indeed sent by Trump, adding to the controversy. Meanwhile, the former president has offered little public response to swirling health rumors, beyond disclosing a chronic vascular condition.

The episode has reignited debate over transparency, media standards, and the duties of public figures to appear in settings that allow for real-time accountability.
