Imagine you’re following your husband in his truck and decide to randomly video tape and — BOOM!– the truck is hit by a lightning bolt!
Thankfully, everyone was ok.
Apparently, the steel-framed vehicle acted as a “faraday cage,” in which the current of the lightning bolt goes around the metal body and typically exits to the ground from the tires. The strike will avoid people as long as everyone is inside the vehicle and not touching the outside metal. This is also the same reason aircraft are often struck by lightning without major damage.
The truck was fried though. Still, no one was hurt.
