In a bewildering, incoherent interview with FOX News, Trump again attacked our neighbors to the North, calling Canada ‘One Of The Nastiest Countries To Deal With’
Even Fox News’ Laura Ingraham was taken aback.
“You’re tougher with Canada than you are with some of our biggest adversaries. Why?” Ingraham asked.
“Only because it’s meant to be our 51st state,” Trump replied.
“I deal with every country, indirectly or directly. One of the nastiest countries to deal with is Canada,” Trump added.
He continued to falsely state: “Canada was meant to be the 51st state because we subsidize Canada by $200 billion a year,” referencing an exaggerated estimate of the U.S. trade deficit with Canada, which the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office placed at $63.3 billion for 2024.
In recent weeks, Canada has hit back after Trump’s wide-ranging tariffs on Canadian imports. Many Canadians are boycotting American-made goods in a trade war no one asked for.
