During his election, one of Trump’s main rallying points was raising tariffs on US trading partners, thus bringing down inflation (despite leading economists explaining that actually his sweeping new proposal would cost Americans hundreds or even thousands of dollars a year.)
But he changed his tune during an interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker when she asked whether he could “guarantee” that Americans won’t pay higher prices.
“I can’t guarantee anything,” Trump replied.
Companies will have to raise prices for consumers to pay for these tariffs, and Trump will take the blame for these price hikes.
