In a touching Starbucks commercial, called appropriately, “What’s your name?.” the camera follows a trans boy through his day, as everyone calls him by his given name, Gemma. But when asked his name at a Starbucks store, the teen shyly says his chosen name ‘James’ and smiles when he sees it on his cup.
The ad will only air on TV in the U.K. but is all-over online, and is part of a partnership with the U.K. transgender youth organization Mermaids. The chain will sell limited-edition mermaid cookies to raise up to $130,000 for the group.
