It’s a fact that more pets go missing during the July 4th weekend than any other time of the year because of the noise of fireworks. Even the bravest dog can be terrified by the loud noises.

We were surprised to discover that pets can be calmed by sound and light machines…just like humans. Hence, the popular sleep device Hatch created a special program just for our furry family members. (With the Hatch Restore soothing sleep sounds and calming colors at night send you off to dreamland, but our favorite feature is waking to a gentle sunrise alarm in the morning.

Not just for July 4th, ‘The Dog Chanel’ on the Hatch app, can be used whenever you go out. Our two rescue doxies are anxious whenever we leave, so instead of blaring the TV, we set up the Channel and let them chill.

This is why Hatch, a sleep wellness company that teaches the whole family better sleep habits, is launching and introducing The Dog Channel on June 27th, just in time for Independence Day.

Working with a vet, they developed sounds and soothing light configurations that can calm even the most anxious pup.  For years, experts have recommended leaving the television on or music or getting anti-anxiety meds for your pet like Trazadone, but many of us don’t want to drug our pets.

White and brown noise can help calm and distract animals during loud, disruptive sounds like fireworks. “The Dog Channel” will also include a curated playlist of tracks designed to be soothing and calming when you are away from your pet and they are home alone.

Molly Brinkmann, DVM.

Says vet Molly Brinkmann (known as ‘Dr. Molly’ online), who consulted on The Dog Channel:

“There is ample research that shows music/sound therapy is beneficial for humans with anxiety and now growing evidence that soothing sounds can also have a calming effect on dogs. Studies show that sounds with pure tones and regular rhythms as well as tempo that mimics a dog’s resting heart rate may keep dogs quieter and calmer which may be especially beneficial during times of stress.”

I think Hatch’s new Dog Channel sound library is a great addition to the toolbox pet parents have to help calm their pets who struggle with anxiety in response to fireworks, separation from their owners and other times of stress.”

Pet owners can access The Dog Channel through their Restore devices with a Hatch+ content subscription.
