There’s a pair of skyscrapers lobbying to become part of the New York skyline. The so-called ‘Freedom Plaza’ are vying for approval to build just south of the UN headquarters.

Designed by architecture firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), the 615-foot-tall towers are connected by a cantilevered sky bridge that will contain two hotels, with a lobby on top beside restaurants, bars, an art gallery a glass-floored (and glass-ceilinged) viewing platform. They are also lobbying for a casino license, but that might hold up approval.

A 150,000-gallon infinity pool will be built on the roof of the connecting skybridge, with the BIG firm describing it as “one of the largest rooftop pools in North America.”

Part of the planning includes the ‘Freedom Plaza,’ a three-block-long public part with retail places and a  “Museum of Freedom and Democracy.”

The firm, in an attempt to woo the planning board, has promised that nearly 40% of the development’s 1,325 apartments will be designated as affordable housing.
