CNN has exclusively obtained the audio recording of the 2021 meeting in Bedminster, New Jersey, where Trump shows off secret documents where he acknowledges that 1) It’s classified and 2) that he can’t declassify them now that he’s not President.
“This was done by the military and given to me,” Trump continues, before noting that the document remained classified.
“See as president I could have declassified it,” Trump says. “Now I can’t, you know, but this is still a secret.”
This undercuts Trump’s defense that he could declassify all the documents he stole from the White House and stored around his Mar-a-Lago home.
This is expected to be key evidence by the Prosecutors in the Federal prosecution.
