As memorials are held to honor the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attack, 22 years after the tragedy, it was announced that two more victims on that day have been identified using new DNA testing.

40 percent of those who died in the attack —  1,104 victims — remain unidentified but now that DNA next-generation sequencing technology has been developed, it is hopeful that more victims can be identified.

New York Mayor Eric Adams said he hopes the new identifications can bring ‘some measure of comfort’ to the victims’ families.

He said: ‘As we prepare to mark the anniversary of September 11, our thoughts turn to those we lost on that terrible morning and their families who continue to live every day with the pain of missing loved ones.’

It’s also been used to test the remains of over 100 people who died during the wildfires in Maui last month.
