The N.Y. Post headline screams: ‘MAFIA DON!’

Usually, their sensationalist headlines are just that but this one has some truth behind it as prosecutors used a statute normally used to bring down mobsters in the case against the former president and some of his top aides for their actions in Georgia.

All individuals have been charged under RICO – the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. The indictment names Trump as the top defendant as well as 18 others, including his former lawyer Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, and former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows. Others include Jeffrey Clark, Sidney Powell, Jenna Ellis, and more.

The 97-page indictment reads: “Trump and the other defendants charged in this indictment refused to accept that Trump lost, and they knowingly and wilfully joined conspiracy to unlawfully change the outcome of the election in favor of Trump.”

“I am giving the defendants the opportunity to voluntarily surrender no later than noon on Friday the 25th day of August 2023,” said the judge in the case.
