Mom Dasha Kelly, an out-of-work card dealer at a Vegas casino, was featured on a CNN story on Monday about evictions facing millions of Americans after the expiration of the Federal eviction moratorium.

She started a GoFundMe on Monday night in a desperate hope of raising $2,000 to cover the back rent she owed. Just 24 hours later, the campaign has raised more than $172,000 from more than 2,700 donors. (It currently stands at $190,000.)

“I just want to tell everybody thank you so much,” Kelly said as she sat with her three little girls on the couch — the last piece of furniture the family owned. “I’m still in denial,’ she said between tears.

At last estimate, more than 11 million Americans are behind on their rent due to the pandemic.
