The US Food and Drug Administration has approved Veozah, a new type of drug to treat the awful hot flashes and night sweats that accompany menopause.

The drug works by blocking receptors in the brain that ‘play a role in the regulation of body temperature.’

Since many women can’t use hormone replacement therapies to manage hot flashes, ie. if they’ve had certain kinds of cancer, or have a family history of heart attacks or blood clots, this is a game changer.

Veozah does come with a warning about the risk of liver injuries. Women using the drug should have blood tests every three months to monitor for liver damage.
