Queen Elizabeth’s son Charles, 73, is now King Charles III. He is expected to address England as monarch for the first time on Sept. 9.

Today he traveled back to Buckingham Palace, greeting the crowd outside.

Asked how it felt to see so many people paying tribute at the Palace, the King said: “It’s quite heart-warming. Not many events would draw people together.

“I think what happened yesterday has really got people to reflect and appreciate what she’s really done for us over the past 70 years.”

Every moment has been mapped out in an elaborate plan called “Operation London Bridge” which went into effect immediately upon the Monarch’s death.
