After many (frankly ridiculous) excuses, Saudi Arabia has finally admitted journalist Jamal Khashoggi is dead, saying the Washington Post writer died ‘in a fight at the consulate.’

The country announced it conducted its own investigation into what happened to the 59-year-old at its own consulate and claimed Friday evening that ‘suspects’ got into a fight with the pudgy journalist.

‘While the investigations are still ongoing into the case with the 18 Saudi detainees, the Kingdom expresses its deep regret at the painful developments that have taken place,’ it added.

In an attempt to mollify the world’s outrage, Saudi arrested 18 suspects – all Saudi nationals — and dismissed the high-placed Deputy intelligence chief Ahmed Assiri. But many people aren’t buying the Saudi excuse, saying instead that the Crown Prince ordered Khashoggi – who has been critical in the past of the Royal family — ordered his interrogation and death.

Democratic Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal said in a statement:

He said the explanation ‘absolutely defies credibility’ adding the country had been ‘given a pass’ for ‘killing innocent civilians’.

‘The world deserves an explanation, and not from the Saudis,’ he told CNN.
