On Wednesday, the Chicago police named Jussie Smollett as a suspect, saying they believe that the actor staged the attack on himself.

After evidence surfaced of the two Nigerian brothers buying ski masks, a red cap and gloves in a store the day before it happened, the brothers came clean and admitted Smollett paid them to plan the hoax attack.

Now police are presenting evidence to a grand jury to consider weighing charges including filing a false police report which can result in 3 years imprisonment plus a $25,000 fine.

In a tweet, CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said: ‘Jussie Smollett is now officially classified as a suspect in a criminal investigation by for filing a false police report (Class 4 felony).’

Meanwhile, the Empire actor continues to maintain his innocence, claiming it was a racist and homophobic attack, even as the evidence mounts against him.
