Only last night was it revealed that special counsel Robert S. Mueller III asked to address the nation in what he termed would be his first and last time.

Key takeaways:

  1. Regarding the investigation into whether President Trump obstructed justice, Mueller stated ‘“if we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so.” He made it clear that the report did NOT clear the President of an obstruction of justice.

2. Mueller stressed that the Justice Department policy ‘prohibits charging a sitting president with a crime’ but referencing that the Constitution provides for another process — by which he means the ability of Congress to impeach the president.

3. Reading from his notes, he also stressed that Russia’s systematic effort to interfere with the 2016 presidential election “deserves the attention of every American.” As you remember, the report outlines 11 instances in which prosecutors investigated whether the president was deliberately trying to obstruct the investigation.

What happens now? Certainly, the pressure to impeach Trump is increased. Stay tuned; it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
