When N.Y. City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced his presidential run — in an already crowded field –the universal reaction was negative and though the Mayor did get 115 donors to pony up $5,000, many of them surveyed said they never expected him to be President. Calling it the cost of doing business in New York, friends of the Mayor support the Mayor publicly but personally say they will vote for another candidate.

Billionaire Barry Diller explained:

‘I’m certainly not a supporter of him running for president. I’m not a supporter of anyone at the moment,’ Diller said. ‘He was very helpful to us in building, and supportive of building, the island that we’re building in the Hudson River. And that’s why [I donated].’

To add insult to injury, a Quinnipiac University poll released last week found de Blasio with just 8 percent approval among American voters, the lowest score of any candidate in the survey.
