Developing story:

Writer Salman Rushdie was stabbed in the neck eleven times just as he was about to speak at an event in Buffalo. He has been airlifted to a hospital but nothing is known about his condition.

33 years after a fatwa was put on him by Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini for his book, and the death threat sent him into hiding, he was reportedly living an almost normal life in New York.

Ironically, the esteemed writer was speaking at a discussion of the US as an ‘asylum for writers and other artists in exile and as a home for freedom of creative expression.’
