President Trump dismissed concerns over leaked Signal chats, calling the messaging platform “defective” while blaming the latest controversy on what he described as a politically motivated “witch hunt.”

Speaking at a rally in Florida on Wednesday, Trump addressed reports of a leaked Signal conversation allegedly tied to discussions among his allies. The leak surfaced earlier this week and has fueled speculation about internal coordination within Trump’s circle. However, the former president was quick to cast doubt on the validity of the chat, arguing that the media was exaggerating its significance.

“They say there’s a ‘leak,’ but maybe Signal is just defective. You know, they say it’s secure, but maybe it’s not so secure,” Trump said. “And even if it were real, which it’s not, this is just another witch hunt. It’s all they do—witch hunts and hoaxes.”

Trump also accused the press of inflating the situation, saying, “They take something and play it up like it’s Watergate, but it’s nothing. Just another fake story. They love this stuff.”

The leaked messages, first reported by multiple outlets, have not been independently verified, but their contents allegedly involve discussions related to ongoing legal and political battles. Trump and his team have not confirmed or denied the authenticity of the chats but insist that the controversy is an attempt to damage his 2024 campaign efforts.

Trump’s response is typical: it deflects focus from the content of leaks to the supposed motives behind their release.
