Storm Bert swept across Europe this weekend, bringing widespread disruption. The storm delivered heavy rain, snow, and gale-force winds, severely impacting the United Kingdom, Ireland, and parts of mainland Europe.

Four people have been reported dead in England and thousands are without power.

In the UK, flooding and strong winds caused significant damage, particularly in Wales and southern England, where up to 100 mm of rainfall was recorded in some areas. Rapid snowmelt exacerbated the risk of flooding, leading to road closures and travel disruptions. Blizzard conditions briefly affected Scotland and northern England, with heavy snowfall on higher ground.

Ireland faced similarly severe conditions, with heavy rain and winds exceeding 110 km/h in some regions. The storm triggered widespread power outages and localized flooding, prompting warnings from Met Éireann about potential hazards.

Authorities have urged caution as cleanup efforts begin, with further impacts possible from lingering high water levels and damaged infrastructure. The UK Health Security Agency also issued alerts for vulnerable populations due to quick-changing conditions.
