In stunning news, authorities said today that Robert Crimo, the Highland Shooter, had legally bought five weapons — including the high-powered rifle that sprayed more than 70 rounds onto the parade — this despite authorities being called to his home twice in 2019 for ‘threats of violence and suicide.’
Since he’s under 21 his Dad ‘sponsored’ his application.
Illinois State Police confirmed on Tuesday that the father of the Highland Park parade shooting suspect sponsored his son’s application for a gun permit months after relatives reported that Robert E. Crimo III had threatened to “kill everyone,” and that authorities had “insufficient basis” to deny the application. The shooter has now been charged with seven counts of murder.
Now people are asking what more can be done to prevent an obviously deranged individual from getting his hands on a weapon of mass destruction.
Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said Illinois’s red-flag law, which allows loved ones to ask a court to temporarily remove guns from those deemed violent or threatening, is “very powerful.” Yet as we’ve seen, the law is rarely invoked.
“We must vastly increase awareness and education about this red-flag law,” Rinehart added. A little too late for the victims in Highland Park.
