Michael Douglas Douglas said playing one of America’s founding fathers — whom he called “a bit of a rascal” — was a great opportunity that included a “wonderful, wonderful cast.”

The eight-part series focuses on a dramatic chapter in the Statesman’s life  — when 70-year-old Franklin sails to France on a secret diplomatic mission.

According to the press release, the limited series will explore “one of the greatest gambles of Benjamin Franklin’s career” when he “convinced France — an absolute monarchy — to underwrite America’s experiment in democracy.”

Set to debut on Apple+ on April 12, it looks like a fascinating show.
