Monday night Trump announced his pick for the spot vacated by retiring judge, Anthony Kennedy, picking conservative judge (surprise, surprise ) Brett Kavanaugh for the vacant Supreme Court.

Key to his appointment was his stand that presidents shouldn’t have to face lawsuits while they’re in office. Trump was obviously thinking ahead to the Mueller investigation reaching the Supreme Court.

Known as a conservative, Kavanaugh could swing the bench to the right, deciding key issues on gay rights, abortion, and Roe vs Wade.

Immediately, the Democrats vowed to fight the nomination and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement that by selecting Kavanaugh, Trump “has put reproductive rights and freedoms and health care protections for millions of Americans on the judicial chopping block.”

Two words. Mid-term elections.
